Some stuff I've been playing
I'm sure everyone has seen commercials for this game. I've played the demo twice now and both times I got chills while playing it. It is a truly immersing experience. DICE got the little things right. You hear Faith(the main character)breathe while running, you need to really look at the ground beneath you before you jump off a building onto another rooftop, and the camera shakes when you fiercely open doors. The action is frantic, but most people don't like the combat/gun play because there isn't much to it and I agree with those thoughts, at least from the demo. However, I don't mind that at all because I'm having fun running away. Trying to find open paths, making split second decisions, and just running for your life is what this game is all about. It's also a beautiful game. I mean the demo is covered in white, but just the clean style of the world is interesting to me. I regret not buying this game, but it's on my Gamefly queue so maybe I'll pick it up at a discount.
Gears of War 2
Man CJ, you recently told me that you don't want a 360 because nothing compelled you about the console. I'm about to turn up the testosterone so please excuse me.
THIS FUCKING GAME BETTER FUCKING COMPEL YOU. IT WILL COMPEL YOU, MELT YOUR FACE, AND YOU WILL EAT SHIT AND ASK FOR MORE
Sorry, but if you can block out all of that manliness and the supposed emotional story, this game is so much fun. Shooting enemies while in cover, running into the face of enemy fire, blowing up a group of Locusts with fucking mortars, huge bosses, bleh I can go on and on. It's just fun, I can't really say anything else. Playing alone is fun, playing against people is fun, playing on the same side with people is fun...this is a terrible pitch, but I don't know. I have a hard time playing first person shooters, but I can totally hold my own in this game because it's in third person. I love chainsawing people in the ass too, but I hate getting chainsawed in the ass. That's annoying because it's a surprise. Anyway, this game is great, and you suck because you won't get a 360. Just kidding, money is fucking tight right now, so if you did get a 360 I would feel sort of guilty because you spent a lot of money on something I keep bugging you to buy. Fun fun fun till the wifey takes the Lancer away...

If you look at the Golden State Warriors current active roster I am older than all but three of their players. I lack upside now and at my peak when combining physical skill and court awareness. How do you feel about that?
I would be the guy who would remember Leah Remini as Stacy Carosi first while they might think of her as the girl from King of Queens.
I would be journeyman. It's not about potential anymore it's about action and action is just a word to begin a scene. People would look to me for advice and I would look at them and try to sound confident all the while looking at the sky for a sign that I can manufacture as optimism.
I mean, I guess if I was a Spurs fan I would look at the roster and think I still have time to be something somebody somewhere. But I am a Warriors fan, where hope springs eternal as long as we can bitch about Chris Cohan.
The average career of an NBA player is 5 years so actually I might be out of the league already, using my nominal fame for a capitalist venture that could lead to the snickers of know-it-all 22 year olds more than willing to tell their friends I sucked.
I was under the impression my quarter-life crisis is over and done with, maybe it's just a continuous accumulation of knowledge and comparisons to what my ceiling is that considers the stares at the sky, trying to pinpoint the one star that can indulge into my narcissism all like "Hey it's OK buddy we gotcha back."
Work work work it work work work it.
I've been meaning to write bout The Game by Neil Strauss because the book has fascinated me much in the same way The Three Stooges did when I was something-or-other years old. I'm also listening to Howard Zinn's A Peoples History the United States which is narrated by Matt Damon and all I can think when I read it is "victimz".
I've been so encumbered by something so mischeviously manipulative that when I'm watching an interview between Letterman and Brian Williams I'm thinking "woah he just dropped a neg there. Way to take control of the interview."
But these things are for social robots and the like whereas I'm more inclined to be a hermit robot at the moment, creating a gang sign for an army of one and smiling at strangers while meaning it, motherfuckers.

BUY AUDIOSURF
I am so late on this, but Steam is offering Audiosurf this week for a mere $2.50 this week only. I'm pretty sure anyone reading this will either: not play it because almost half of the contributors of this blog have Macs and I don't think you can play this on a Mac unless you do some magic(not computer savvy at all), or you'll scoff at me and say C'mon Spiz! This shit came out in Feburary! OLD! However if you're in the minority like I am, I implore you! If you like the music games as much as I do you really need to check out this game, especially at that price.
The game works like this. It's part rhythm/part puzzle. You take any MP3 you got on your computer and the game will create a track based on what the song sounds like. The track will rise, fall, curve to the beat. Now the basic object of the game is to stack colored blocks into clusters to clear the board and score points. The video above is like the most basic mode(think it's called Mono) where you only have to worry about one color, but you have to dodge the grey blocks or else you're stuck with those blocks on your board. Like most good puzzle games, very simple concept, but there's strategy and depth hidden. Like in that mode you can hit grey blocks on purpose to stack blocks to create bigger combos for more points. People throw around the term synesthesia for experiences like this(see Rez) and yeah, I get totally sucked into the visuals and the music. It's such a time sink right now.
The sheer fact that you can just input any song and play it in the game makes this an amazing game. This isn't like Rock Band where I get to rock out to "Pump it Up" by Elvis Costello and then cover my ears when that fucking Disturbed song comes up. The one where the lead singer goes OOHWAHAHAHAH which is all of them. My point is I fired up "Trojan Horse" by Bloc Party as the first song on the demo and after that I was sold and played till 3am. The freedom, oh the glorious freedom. I have no clue how the developer got away with this, but all music games should allow you to use whatever music you want. This is easily going to be on my Games of the Year list.
Monday
Why Does she have to be a she?(Conclusion)
Yes, that might be possibly the most obvious thing for a man to say, but I get so easily distracted by sex that I cannot follow a conversation. There's more to it than that. The main reason why I can't talk to women is because I simply do not need the temptation of the possibility of having sex with someone else. I have no will power. Anything I touch, I get hooked on. Music, video games, PBR, sleeping pills, etc.
I tried making friends with a girl here pretty much as soon as I moved here. I met her from my previous blog and we shared a love for the movie Amelie. We didn't talk that much online, but the few times we did I felt like she was a very neat person. Someone I felt totally comfortable shooting the shit with. When I learned I would be moving to Chicago I thought, Sweet, I'll know someone. To make a long story short I feel like I either scared her off because I constantly bugged her to kick it(because I was desperate for friends to go out with and I knew no one else) and that kind of smothering from an internet friend could turn anyone off, or I guess we just didn't click like I thought we did.
I don't think the fiancee really liked the idea of hanging with a girl in our new town. Probably didn't help that when asked if I thought said girl was cute, I was truthful and said yes. I don't have a spotless history in terms of our relationship. I did try to mess around with one of her high school friends after all, and I haven't really heard the end of that one, but I think I'm exaggerating because I can't remember the last time she brought that up.
So on top of this intense anxiety I feel whenever talking to people now, I also distance myself from woman because I just don't want that remote possibility of something happening to exist. That's so extreme and neurotic to think that way, but I can't help it at the moment.
The girl at work always walks in wearing some band's shirt that I am familiar with, headphones on her ears(the earbuds that wrap around the back of your ear). What really kills me is when she wears her Radiohead jacket as if to just turn the fucking tractor beam on my ears and penis. I do this subtle things in hopes of getting her attention like making sure I wear some bands t-shirt the days I know she's working. One day last week in particular I started listening to OK Computer, and I swear she stared at me as I was mouthing the words to "Climbing Up the Walls." I hope she was smiling at me.
I want to speak to her one day, but I can see myself never speaking to her. We'll just go on listening to music we both enjoy, and never share our opinions. I have become such a pessimist the last few years. Everything I have I am grateful for and I try really hard to show my gratitude to my friends, but shit man. Like I feel like what's going to happen is that next year I'm finally going to stumble across people that are like the coolest people in Chicago. We'll play video games, go to some dives to drink Schlitz, and talk about nothing till 5am. Then, I'll leave after six months of hanging out with this/these person/people totally kicking myself for not finding these people sooner. Why should I kick myself over serendipity? I don't know, but I will. I'm not sure that will happen either because I have gotten used to just staying indoors for one reason or another. No money, or I don't want to take the train all the way to the North side, or it's too cold.
Bleh, I'm done complaining. I have problems.

This is the third night in a row I've gotten drunk. I'm not finishing Gears tonight and the awkward med school party is tomorrow. I'm going to play Midnight Club because I can just mail off Gears on Monday so I have time. Played a lot of Castlevania today, and it's pretty fun, but hard as balls.
